Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Savely (“the App”, “we”, “our”) is a personal-use video and audio downloader for Android. You paste or share a link — YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, or a direct media URL — and the App fetches and saves it to your device. Savely is intended only for downloading content you have the rights to save. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and what rights you have over it.
Key principle: Savely is offline-first. Extraction and downloading happen entirely on your device via a bundled engine (yt-dlp/ffmpeg/aria2c). We do not run servers that see your links, your downloads, or your device identity, and we do not sell, rent, or share data with advertisers.
2. Data We Collect
2a. Data you provide (stored on-device only)
| Category | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Links | URLs you paste, share into the App, or have on your clipboard | Locate and download the requested media |
| Download queue & history | Status, progress, chosen quality/format, timestamps | Manage active and past downloads |
| App settings | Theme, max concurrent downloads, default quality, download subfolder, Wi-Fi-only, charging-only, clipboard auto-start | App configuration |
All of the above is stored exclusively on your device, in a local database sandboxed to the App by Android. It is not encrypted beyond the App-private storage Android itself provides, and it is never transmitted to us — we do not operate a backend that receives it.
2b. Downloaded files
Files you download are saved to Downloads/Savely/ (or a subfolder you choose) using Android’s MediaStore (Android 10+) or a direct file write (Android 9 and below). Once saved there, they’re regular files on your device, visible to any app with storage/media access, like any other download.
2c. Instagram sign-in (opt-in, off unless you use it)
Instagram requires a signed-in session for most media requests. If you choose “Sign in to Instagram,” the App opens a standard Android WebView pointed directly at instagram.com — you enter your credentials there, on Instagram’s own page, not inside App code, and we never see your username or password. Once you’re signed in, the App reads the resulting session cookie from Android’s WebView cookie store and saves it to a file in the App’s private storage on your device. That cookie is used only to authenticate the App’s own download requests to Instagram on your behalf; it is never sent to us or to any third party. You can clear it at any time from Settings, which deletes the saved cookie file and clears the WebView’s cookies.
2d. Data collected automatically (none)
Savely does not use analytics, telemetry, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. No usage data, device identifiers, or diagnostics are collected or transmitted by the App.
2e. Data we do NOT collect
- Account registration, profile, or identity data (the App has no user accounts of its own)
- Payment information
- Contacts, location, or biometric data
- Analytics or advertising identifiers
3. How We Use Your Data
Data described above is used solely, on your device, to:
- Fetch and save the media at the link you provide
- Show your download queue, progress, and history
- Apply your chosen settings (quality, concurrency, network/charging constraints)
- Authenticate download requests to Instagram, if you’ve opted into sign-in
We do not use any of this data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond running the App for you.
4. Permissions
| Permission | Why the App requests it |
|---|---|
| Internet | To fetch the media at the link you provide |
| Notifications | To show download progress and completion |
| Foreground service | To keep long downloads running reliably |
| Storage (Android 9 and below only) | To write downloaded files outside App-private storage; not needed on Android 10+, which uses MediaStore instead |
5. Data Storage and Security
Your links, queue, history, settings, and (if applicable) Instagram session cookie are stored in the App’s private storage, which Android sandboxes from other apps. This storage is not separately encrypted by the App beyond that OS-level sandboxing. Downloaded media files themselves are saved to your device’s shared Downloads area, like any file you download from a browser.
Because none of this data is transmitted to us, we have no server-side copy of it — deleting the App or clearing its data removes it everywhere it exists.
6. Your Rights
| Right | How to exercise it |
|---|---|
| Access | All of your data is already on your device — open the App to see your queue, history, and settings directly. |
| Erasure | Uninstall the App, or use your device’s Settings → Apps → Savely → Clear data, to remove all App data. Use Settings inside the App to clear the saved Instagram session specifically. |
| Deletion of downloaded files | Delete them from Downloads/Savely/ (or your chosen subfolder) using any file manager, same as any other downloaded file. |

7. Children
The App is not directed at children under 18.
8. Third-party Services
Savely uses no third-party SDKs that collect personal data. The App does connect directly to the site you link to (e.g. YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X) in order to fetch the media you requested — that connection is between your device and that site, governed by that site’s own terms and privacy policy, not by us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We will update the effective date above when this policy changes. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
